Equity

Equity in poker is a probability of winning a hand at showdown. It can also be understood as the rightful share of the pot based on how often a player is expected to win a hand.

To calculate your equity, you need to know your hand and your opponent’s possible holdings, as well as the community cards that are on the board. Once you have this information, you can use a tool like a poker equity calculator to determine your probability of winning the hand.

The concept of equity in poker is a theoretical one. In practice, the equity will vary depending  on factors such as player tendencies, position, stack sizes etc. That said, understanding  equity helps you make better decisions about whether to call, fold, or raise in a particular spot. If your equity is high, it may be worth calling a bet or raising in order to maximize your potential winnings. Conversely, if your equity is low, it may be better to fold and save your chips for a better spot.
